Rallying in Kenya: motorsport passion at Vipingo Ridge

Motorsport is in Vipingo Ridge’s blood. From the Vipingo Ridge Founders to our homeowners, many are key figures in the vibrant motorsport scene of Kenya.

We remain supportive of many different programs related to sport of all types and motorsport in various forms.

We recently sponsored our local Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) event in Mombasa, and we have developed a 2-kilometer track in Vipingo Ridge which is used by MotoX riders during training camps and National Championship meets.

International rally partnerships

For many years we’ve collaborated with the UK-based Tuthill Porsche organisation. Winners of the East African Classic Safari Rally, they are synonymous with the most successful rally cars in the world. This year they celebrate 30 years since they established their rally credentials.

Vipingo Ridge welcomes guests from all over the world and hosting the Tuthill Porsche rally team is always a pleasure. This viral photo of the classic Porsche line up on our PGA Baobab Course is from a decade ago.

This iconic 2013 image was the largest rally team ever assembled – 17 classic race prepared Tuthill Porsches competing in the toughest rally in the world. They raced competitively across 5,000 kilometres, for over 9 days, with rally icons Bjorn Waldegard and Stig Blomqvist among the Tuthill team drivers. It was a sight to behold.

These motorsport pioneers are fantastic advocates for Kenya, bringing a spirit of exploration and inspiring team work. They are back for 2023, once again bringing their best, ready to compete in the biggest line up in the East African Classic Safari Rally 2023.

From racing to hosting

When the East African Classic Safari Rally comes around every other year, Vipingo Ridge is always involved in some capacity. Whether our competing homeowners or a base for car preparations, we support this fantastic event, which is in its 11th edition. This year is particularly special for us, as we take on a new role.

We’re delighted to confirm we have partnered with the East African Classic Safari Rally 2023 to be the start. This includes a shakedown stage, the starting ramp, and a public spectator event.
