Safari experiences at Vipingo Ridge

When staying at Vipingo Ridge you can explore the Wildlife Sanctuary.

Our team of Rangers are able to take guests on walking safaris to get close to nature. You can also partake in a driving safari to cover more ground and see more of the Ridge.

We have over 180 large species, introduced as part of our Kenya Wildlife Services breeding program. These including Bushbuck, Eland, Grant’s Gazelle, Hartebeest, Impala, Oryx, Waterbuck, Wildebeast and Zebra, that free roam around the 2,500 acres. We also have three rescue giraffes that are coming into breeding age that were rescued as part of a joint initiative with our partner Reteti.

As well these animals ‘brought home’, many species of bird and reptile have returned as the rewilding of Vipingo Ridge, making for a great opportunity for some interesting sightings.

There are many activities available at Vipingo Ridge, but with aircraft hangars at the Vipingo Ridge airstrip, we are ready to help you explore further afield.

You can stay at the Ridge and then charter a plane to visit coastal sights. The ultimate in safari. We have a number of packages with our partners to help make your stay as easy and exciting as possible.

Flying Safari:
Tsavo East game drives and overnight stay

We make it really easy to explore the nearby Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Game Park Tsavo East from Vipingo Ridge.

Our partners fly to the Voi airstrip and from there you can experience iconic game drives and stay in the stunning open camp Satao, where the look out tower and watering hole are the perfect place for a sundowner.

  • Vipingo Ridge is a 30 minute flight from Tsavo East meaning you can maximise your time and experience an unforgettable safari.

    Day 1

    09:30
    Depart Vipingo and fly to Tsavo East.
    Land at Voi airstrip.
    Short transfer to gate to pay park entrance fees (detailed separately) before continuing on game drive through Tsavo East to Satao Camp.
    Arrive late morning and check in to Satao Camp.

    12:30-14:00
    Lunch at Satao Camp

    16:00 – onwards
    Afternoon Game drive.
    Dinner and overnight Satao Camp.

    Day 2

    06:30 – 08:30
    Early morning game drive in Tsavo East.

    08:30 – 09:30
    Breakfast Satao Camp.

    09:45
    Transfer to airstrip to connect charter flight back to Vipingo Ridge.

Flying Day trip:
Breakfast at Tsavo East and Lunch in Lamu

This flying package from Scenic Air Safaris has it all, creating the ultimate coastal experience.

Setting off early you will arrive at Tsavo East for a game drive and breakfast, before boarding your plane to Lamu.

Taking the picturesque dhow to the island, enjoy lunch at your leisure before flying back to Vipingo Ridge in time for sundowners.
