The Vipingo Ridge Ryder Cup: great success at the inaugural golf event

We have an active membership at the PGA Baobab Course, with a wonderful calendar of events. This year we have held the inaugural Vipingo Ridge Ryder Cup. A new format event, following the iconic Ryder Cup, golf was played in teams for three days from the 15th to 17th December.

Our Ryder Cup Teams

Our two teams were battling it out for the plaque (and the glory) were Kenya and The Rest of the World (ROW). Everyone played valiantly over the three days with great enthusiasm.

Kenya was captained by Betty Bundotich and the ROW captain was Joe Carvalho. Each team had 12 players (pictured above). We thank the whole team: Bizzie was the starter, and Mohammed from the Pro Shop also started on Sunday.

Partnership with INEOS

INEOS and Wootton Automotive (WA) sponsored the competition as well as displaying three mighty Grenadier 4x4s. WA treated us to a fun Friday Club Night with a welcome Dawa and lots of delicious Bitings.

This was an opportunity for the Vipingo Ridge members to see the car in person at this exclusive cocktail party.

Test Driving and Golf

After the Saturday matches we were treated to Grenadier drives around the Ridge with challenging obstacles that the car did with ease owing to the advanced engineering. This event ‘Beers and Grenadiers’ is a format being repeated across the globe and we’re delighted to have been able to be the venue for such an event.

The Results

After three days of competition the prize giving ceremony was held on the Rooftop of the Clubhouse. An excellent Sunday lunch was also partially sponsored by WA.  Jack Wootton presented the trophy to the winning team who were the Rest of the the World.

This competition was so popular that all the players are now eager for a rematch next year. We thank INEOS, Wootton Automotive and our members for a successful Ryder Cup weekend.
