5 great reasons to spend half term at the Kenyan coast

Vipingo Ridge has long been an idyllic option for family holidays. A secure development and packed with facilities to entertain every member of the family, it’s a fantastic place spend time together and make memories.

It’s hard to pick only 5 but here are the 5 great reasons to come to Kilifi on the Kenya coast for a family stay at half term.

  1. Holiday Club

Vipingo Ridge has a regular Holiday Club for Kids - aiming to create a social environment for children to interact, be creative and to try new things. These activities vary each holiday, but arts and crafts creative play mornings are supervised by an educational professional and are the backbone of the opportunities for children of all ages.

On a Friday early evening we host a ‘cinema’ night. Showing kids movies on our big screen, children gather to watch and escape into Disney or other age appropriate film. Each child should be accompanied by an adult, but it’s a great chance for the adults to grab a sundowner (and a break).

Both of these activities are held in the Sundowner events space (unless otherwise stated).

2. Child friendly outdoor activities

One of the best things about the Vipingo Ridge lifestyle is that we engage with nature and the outdoors. Less time spent on devices and looking at a screen, and more time interacting and learning new physical pursuits.

The Sundowner venue for the Kids Clubs is also close to our swimming pool, tennis courts and pony stables, activities that parents can book directly at any time. We have access to coaches and instructors to help them to experience and develop these sports. Book through our reservations team based at the Hub.

We also have a variety of trails, organised bike rides, nature walks and buggy rides can also be arranged for your family to explore further afield in our Wildlife Sanctuary.

3. Connecting with nature

Vipingo Ridge is a sanctuary for both people and wildlife. When visiting Vipingo Ridge there are over 170 large herbivores roaming freely, great for an ‘at home’ safari. We also have 11 trained Rangers on the team, and have recently started to introduce Ranger walks.

This is an educational experience, highlighting the natural world and varied habitats of Vipingo Ridge. During half term we’re doing a special, shorter morning walk for families to experience the natural wonders of the Ridge.

4. Build sandcastles

Vipingo Ridge Beach Club is only a short drive from the main resort, and offers the limitless fun of the beach. White sands for infinite play opportunities, swinging day beds and child-friendly food options in the restaurant, make this a perfect way for the family to spend the day.

We also have a water sports centre, so if you’d like to book snorkelling or a glass bottom boat trip to explore the Marine Reserve, there’s something for everyone. Book through our reservations team based at the Hub.

and a very special reason… 5. Mushujaa Day long weekend

This half term we have an extra special Mushujaa Day event at the Beach Club. The public holiday is on a Friday (20th October) making it a great excuse for a long weekend at the Ridge. This is great event for the adults with live music and cocktails, but we’ve also got a special Kids Club - arts and crafts from items collected on the beach. This supervised activity will be happening while the adults are chilling in the Beach Club bar. Table booking is recommended if you’d like to join us.

Family holidays in October half term 2023

This October 2023 half term is a little different, in that the holidays are varying. For most schools the dates are from 14th October, and our local educational treasure Kivukoni International School is a week later. To reflect these dates, our half term programme runs a little longer than usual.
