Loop Safari Gravel Series 2025

The Loop Safari Gravel Series 2025 came to a close with the Vipingo Edition this past Saturday, 23rd August.

We were proud to host the final leg here at Vipingo Ridge, which attracted close to 300 cyclist registrations, a record for the coastal series.

In just its second year, the event has already become one of the most exciting fixtures on Kenya’s cycling calendar, following earlier editions in Tatu City on 1st February, Machakos on 8th March, and Hell’s Gate on 14th June.

The series featured diverse categories, from the a Kids Race, a 20km race, to the 60km Kenya National Gravel Championship Youth, and the demanding 120km Kenya National Gravel Championship Elite, making it an inclusive competition for riders of all levels.

Finale Winners and Prizes

In the men’s elite race, Jordan Schleck claimed the top spot, successfully defending his title for the third consecutive time and tallying five wins out of the eight races he has entered since last year.

He finished in 4:28:47, followed by Lawrence Lorot at 4:40:03, with Kenneth Karaya securing third at 4:45:00.

In the women’s category, Mary Aleper delivered a strong performance, winning with a time of 5:48:46. She was followed by Grace Kaviro in 5:51:09 and Kendra Masiga in 6:40:32. Her triumph was especially remarkable after placing 3rd at the Tatu City edition and 5th in Machakos earlier this year.

In the teams standings Black Mamba emerged as the overall winners, earning KSH 125,000, followed by Ariya Finergy Solar Vortex with KSH 100,000, while Joy Riders claimed third with KSH 70,000. Individual podium finishers were also rewarded, with the top five riders receiving KSH 20,000, 15,000, 10,000, 7,000, and 5,000 respectively.

Supporting cycling in Kenya

Speaking during the event, Hanifa Said, Chief Operating Officer of the Amani Project, commended the growing stature of the series:

“This series is transforming cycling in Kenya and beyond by providing four world-class racing opportunities each year while nurturing talent across the region,” she said.

She also revealed the project’s long-term ambition of fielding an all-East African team at the prestigious Tour de France, a move that would mark a historic milestone for the sport in the region.

Adding to the spirit of the event, our Chief Executive Officer, Alex Horsey, also joined as a competitor, reflecting our deep commitment to sports, community, and healthy living.

At Vipingo Ridge, we are steadily establishing ourselves as a leading sports tourism hub, bringing together cycling, golf, and outdoor recreation while advancing conservation and community empowerment. In line with our sustainability core value, this year’s finale included a tree-planting initiative for pupils, spectators, cyclists, and VIP guests an expression of our dedication to combining sport with environmental responsibility. By uplifting local and regional talent, we continue to strengthen Kenya’s position as a center for sporting excellence in East Africa and beyond.
