Naomi returns from local course Nyali in high spirits

Fresh from her record breaking win in Kiambu, our sponsored golfer, and top ladies amateur, Naomi Wafula headed down the highway from Kilifi to local course Nyali Golf and Country Club.

She is competing at the Nyali Open in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship on her road to gather points for international competition. The ladies game does not add to her points total so once again she’s competing in the men’s game.

In contention once again

The Nyali Open Championship is a 3-day event held in Mombasa. 54 holes is a test of endurance and Naomi started strong.

At the end of Round 2 Naomi found herself in familiar company with championship leader Michael Karanga in first (with +2) and then she was tied with Ugandan Godfrey Nsubuga and our own Adel Balala in second (on +4).

For Round 3 Naomi played with Karanga and Nsubuga in the last group.

On Day 3 did not produce the result she was hoping for (+12 in 6th place) but Naomi was upbeat and ready to move forward;

I played really well on Day 1 and Day 2.
On day Day 3, I felt a little bit of pressure but I was happy to play with Mike Karanga and Godfrey Nsubuga. I am also happy I found great confidence that helped me keep my cool.
— Naomi Wafula

Next Naomi heads to her final event of the years, this time in Nairobi - the Uhuru Shield Tournament at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club. We’re so proud of her tenacity this year and wish her all the best for this final 2023 event.
