Ladies golf in Kenya hits the coast
The Kenya Coast is witnessing a defining moment in women’s golf.
Today, 5th August the Ladies Coast Open is taking place at Vipingo Ridge, meanwhile the spotlight is firmly on the region and at the center of it all is Naomi Wafula.
With the Sunshine Development Tour, East Africa Swing (SDT-EAS) making its third and fourth stops at Nyali Golf & Country Club and Diamonds Leisure Beach & Golf Resort, and the Ladies Coast Open 5-competition event hitting the coastal circuit it is busy time for golf at the Kenya Coast.
Kenya’s first female professional golfer with the PGK
As Kenya’s first female professional golfer under the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), Naom Wafula continues to make headlines. After turning pro this year, she made a strong impression during the SDT-EAS’s second leg at Ruiru, becoming the only woman to make the cut and finishing as the top-ranked female in a competitive field.
Her participation this week at Nyali and next at Diamonds Leisure marks a new chapter in her first pro tournaments on home turf at the Coast. Her path to this point has been one of persistence and passion qualities that recently earned her the backing of Kilifi County leadership and the continued support from Vipingo Ridge, in recognition of her potential to shape the future of Kenyan golf.

Return of the Ladies Coast Open for 2025
This week also features the Ladies Coast Open, which began in Malindi and makes its pivotal stop at Vipingo Ridge on the 5th of August, before proceeding to Mombasa and Nyali.
The event brings together 120 top female players from across East Africa and reflects not only the rising standard of the women’s game, but also Vipingo Ridge’s continued commitment to nurturing female golfers from emerging grassroots talent to professionals like Naomi Wafula.
The competition also attracts a range of sponsors and partners, each understanding the value of such events and investing in the women’s game.
In many ways, Naomi’s journey mirrors the momentum building across Kenya’s coastal clubs. The infrastructure is here, the talent is rising, and the opportunities for growth especially for women in golf are greater than ever.
