Golf Competition: Christopher Seex Memorial Returns
The Christopher Seex Memorial Golf Tournament has been confirmed 2025 for 5th October 2025. Vipingo Ridge is proud to sponsor this charity event, one of our favourite events on the golf club calendar.
Founder of the Tamarind Group Remembered
The event is in honour of Chris Seex, 1943 - 1999, the founder of the Tamarind Group, a Kenyan institution that began with the Tamarind Restaurant in Mombasa. Chris set the standards for restaurants in Kenya, and many credit him with the popular coastal cocktail, the Dawa. The competition aims to be a fun day of camaraderie and golf celebrating his impact on the coastal hospitality industry and social scene.
The Chris Seex Memorial Golf Tournament was first played in 2017. It has been an annual event - with the exception of the COVID hiatus in 2020 and 2021. This year 2025, the tournament is scheduled to take place on October 5th 2025, once again at the PGA Baobab Course.
Vipingo Ridge x Tamarind is a delicious combination
Once again Vipingo Ridge will work closely with our partners from the Tamarind Group to create a unique and entertaining event.
The format will follow the same as previous years with a one-day 18th hole Stableford competition. The event is always popular, attracting players from across Kenya, for great golf, great food and a great variety of prizes. We plan to tee off on both sides of the course in order to finish in time for the Tamarind Dawa Bar and Sushi Bar, and a curry lunch by Vipingo Ridge.
Our water partners Acquelle will also be supporting with a number of hydration stations. This year we will also have a Dawa Bar on the course, for added ‘hydration’ during the competition.
Support this Charity Competition
The event is for charity. All funds raised are split 50 - 50 between two very worthy causes.
Local organisation in Vipingo Village, the Future Hope Fund, is a community centre with many important activities to support children and families affected by HIV and Aids. Their work includes community IT skills training, after school clubs and youth empowerment projects. The second organisation is well-known animal welfare charity KSPCA, (Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals), specifically working with the coastal branch in Mombasa.
The organisers of the Christopher Seex Memorial Golf Tournament are volunteers, and they have shared a few words of thanks to encourage sign ups and sponsors to come forward to support the event:

Fantastic Golf and Fantastic Prizes
Many of the companies mentioned above donate wonderful prizes for the competition and for the planned auction. In addition there are lots of prizes from the Tamarind Group - dinners at their portfolio of restaurants at the coast and Nairobi, a stay at the Tamarind Tree Hotel and fun give-aways.
There is also a trophy for the overall winner. There is a revolving trophy, with a replica to keep for the winner each year. The trophy is a magnificent sculpture of a Lilac Breasted Roller by Roger Jessop.
