Team welfare: Men’s mental health month

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to break the silence. On Saturday 14th, Vipingo Ridge held a men’s mental health awareness event, led by our Human Resources team, with support from the Vipingo Ridge CEO, Alex Horsey.

Opening remarks from the Head of Support Services, Esther, recognized the resilience and contributions of the men at Vipingo Ridge, encouraging open conversations around mental well-being.

The CEO, shared a personal note with the team, setting a powerful tone: “Thank you for everything you carry, everything you give, and everything you show up for, even when it’s not easy. You matter. You are seen. And we appreciate you more than you know. Let’s keep showing up for each other.”

Reflecting on his own journey, suggested practical ways to support Men’s Mental Health in the workplace and in other situations. He emphasized the importance of having someone to confide in and added that men need not to carry it all alone but instead find a safe space to open up.

Engaging Keynote presentations and fun team building activity

Afterwards, the team enjoyed a relaxed tea break with snacks, creating a warm space for networking, sharing stories, and meaningful connection.

The team anonymously shared reflections, later read in a session led by Executive Assistant, Mary, highlighting diverse struggles faced by men.

A lively “clap game of seven” brought cheer as players counted aloud, clapping instead of saying numbers with or divisible by 7. Mistakes meant elimination. The CEO joined in, breaking down hierarchy through engaging play. Kisaka from the Security Team outlasted everyone to win the fun and fast-paced challenge.

The event ended with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony celebrating men’s roles and marking both Mental Health Month and Father’s Day.

Our Chief Controller, Josephat concluded the event by commending the management for nurturing a workplace where openness is embraced as a sign of strength.
