Women’s Golf Success: Ladies Coast Open 2026
The sun rose over the stunning Vipingo Ridge on Tuesday, 4th August 2026, heralding what would become a truly memorable day for women's golf on the Kenyan coast. As the second leg of the week-long 2026 Ladies Coast Open, the event at the prestigious PGA Baobab Course delivered everything the golfing fraternity had hoped for and more.
After kicking off in Malindi on Monday, the tournament found its stride at Vipingo Ridge, where 118 golfers navigated the challenging par-72 course. The event, organized by the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), brought together a vibrant field of amateur golfers from across East Africa, all vying for glory at one of the continent’s most revered golfing destinations.
A Day of Spectacular Performances
The competition was fierce, with the leaderboards reflecting a day of exceptional golf.
The overall winner of the Vipingo Ridge leg was Mukami Wangai from Limuru Country Club, who carded an impressive 81 gross to claim the title on a countback. Wangai, who also serves as the KLGU Chairperson, showcased the poise of a true champion under pressure. Her victory was particularly poignant as she emphasized the quality of the course and the spirit of the competition:
Speaking to the Standard newspaper: “It was tough but I am happy to win. The course was in perfect condition and the competition was so strong. Every shot mattered. I’m proud of the golf I played and the way I handled the pressure down the stretch. I want to thank the sponsors for supporting ladies golf. To all the young girls watching, keep going” said Wangai.
Division A
In the Gross Division A, Doris Mideva the Junior Star of Golf Park Club emerged as the winner with an 81 gross, with Mercy Nyanchama (82 gross) as the runner-up and Esther Chumo (83 gross) taking third place . The Net Division A was equally thrilling, with Vipingo Ridge’s Elizabeth Rune taking the top prize with a stunning 69 nett. Mumbi Ngengi (71 nett) and Dorcas Bett (72 nett) completed the podium.
Division B
The competition in Division B was equally intense. Linda Munyao of Nakuru Golf Club secured the Gross Division B title on a countback after tying with Rosemary Mkok, both on 95 gross. Maureen Obunga of Vipingo Ridge rounded out the top three with 96 gross . In the Net Division B, Regina Kaveke of Nyali Golf and Country Club took the win with a 72 nett, while Joyce Ngwiri (73 nett c/b) and Catherine Oosterwijk (73 nett) finished as runner-up and third respectively.
A Day for Double Hole in one
Adding to the drama and excitement of the day were two spectacular hole-in-ones, a rare feat that electrified the atmosphere. Jane Munyi achieved the remarkable milestone on the 4th hole, while Monica Wairigu followed suit with an ace on the 17th hole. These historic moments underscored the exceptional skill level on display and will undoubtedly be remembered as highlights of the 2026 tournament.
